Dr. Schmid Recognized by Manufacturing Engineering Society
The Awards Commission of the international Sociedad de Ingenieria de Fabricacion (SIF) -Manufacturing Engineering Society (MES) has awarded Dr. Steve Schmid, professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science at UNC Charlotte, and Serope Kalpakjian, professor emeritus at Illinois Tech, the 2021 SIF-MES Award for their “valuable contributions to the dissemination of manufacturing process engineering and their selfless and effective support to the congresses organized by the SIF ”.
The official recognition was carried out electronically as part of the 9th MESIC 2021 Congress, organized by the members of the Manufacturing Process Engineering Area of the University of Oviedo.
Dr. Schmid is the Belk-Woodward Distinguished Professor in Engineering in The William States Lee College of Engineering at UNC Charlotte. A nationally known expert in manufacturing, Dr. Schmid collaborates with researchers in the college’s Center for Precision Metrology, as well as with international colleagues and companies.
The Manufacturing Engineering Society (MES) is a non-profit organization, with the aim of developing the scientific and technical aspects of manufacturing engineering, and promoting its useful and industrial aspects.
